Yesterday we highlighted some toddler Valentines crafts here.
My 4-year old daughter and I delved into some tried & true easy crafting for this holiday.
First up are the Crayon Hearts -- just grab an assortment of those pesky broken crayons from the bottom of all your craft bins. (I especially save restaurant crayons for this craft). Quickly score each label with a paring knife, break crayons into small pieces and put inside muffin tins or I always use silicone ice trays found at dollar stores.
Place the tray in your preheated oven at 275. Bake for 10 minutes. Check to see if all have melted and increase by 2-minute increments. (I found the cheap restaurant crayons did not melt uniformly). Carefully remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Carefully pop out of the molds or muffin tins.
And TA-DA -- crayon hearts. We'll attach them to cards for her preschool friends.
Happy Valentine's Day from BaltimoreMommies.com
Hearts Abound Valentine's Day is just around the corner and many of our moms have been breaking out the craft supplies to keep everyone occupied during these snowy days. Our school age kids are making Valentines for their friends and our smaller set are having some first time fun with glue.
Katie shared the perfect young toddler craft for this holiday that she and Hank (17 months) did together.
Katie wrote:
We did a valentine for his grandparents but you could do this with any shape. I cut out a paper heart and taped it to our kitchen table. I cut out a bunch of tissue paper squares and put them in a bowl. I spread out a thin layer of glue on the whole area of the heart and showed him how to stick the squares on. The tissue paper is good because it sticks with glue really easily and doesn't have to be exact. Of course there was a lot of "Don't eat it," "One at a time," and "Don't throw" but he loved it! He even wanted to make them again this morning.
Cortney shared a card craft that is good for the 3-year old range. She and her daughter were making cards for their family and some of her playdate friends.
Cortney wrote:
I just had to share the cards ky made yesterday! I only did the cutting and writing. She drew on the back her self. Her favorite things to do now are draw faces. I cut the cards and the shapes for her to glue. she glued them herself.
How are you holding up? Over on the board everyone shared the amazing menus and treats they are making during this lovely Snow-In of 2010. We're also sharing photos of our neighborhoods. Post yours on our FB Fan Page or on the BM board.
Caroline posted asking about ways to keep little ones entertained on those housebound days.
Laura searches for online printables and craft ideas (see our archives here for some great ones), breaks out the playdough and paperdolls. She also had a wonderful suggestion for those little ones that can't get out in the big snowdrifts -- bring buckets of snow inside and dump them in the bathtub. She lays a towel on half the tub for sitting and the kids can play in the mound of snow until it melts.
Rebecca relies on baking treats with her little chef, workbooks, a rousing game of Hide & Seek with one parent and little one searching for the other parent and shaking their sillies out with a family dance party.
Cortney and Heather also pull out crafts, games and baking treats. Sara breaks out finger paint and water colors for her twins, along with games like Chutes and Ladders, Candyland and Zingo. Lauren and Amanda are using the time to have their little ones work on crafting homemade Valentine's and treats for next week. Lauren shared this link.
